This month has felt like a bit of a blur. Between media engagements, client appointments and personal travel, my brain feels a bit like mush.
While the go go pace is definitely my style, I think I may have over committed and let my entrepreneurial spirit over extend myself a tad. That being said, it has been a very good month of connections and company growth!
The start of June began less than pleasantly with injections for myself. While it’s not normally an aspect of myself I like to advertise, I do struggle with chronic pain and other ailments. I try hard not to let those limit me, but some days are better than others. Anywho, my body wasn’t a huge fan of the injections I got and I had a bit of a rough 2 weeks managing pain as well as work commitments.
I did however get to enjoy an exclusive runway show called the Form Frontier where I took my lovely mother. This event was meant to create community and networking amongst western and indigenious fashion enthusiasts while supporting Porch Light Society. This is an organization that is meant to support with mental health and remove the stimga of it within agriculture and rural communities.
The event itself was hosted at Domaine Furnishings, and created by the Giddy Up Gals in partnership with Smithbilt Hats. This event had a little bit of everything; a daring fun fashion show, throughtfully curated displays, networking and live performers. My mother and I throughly enjoyed the evening and definitely left feeling inspired to overhaul our wardrobes!!

Between Events
With Stampede around the corner, there has been a flurry of meetings, events and clients to manage. Throughout the middle of this month, I was mostly focusing on working with as many clients as possible before I was unable to for almost 3 weeks from back to back events and commitments. On top of that I was trying to write out articles ahead of time for August as well as prerecord a few Uncinched Episodes in order to avoid majour gaps in workflow due to overwelm or lack of time! Basically what I am trying to convey is, there was a lot of long days in June.
On top of all this, I had to do a long haul to my cousins wedding in Saskatwechwan. I drove a total of 18hrs within 3 days, leaving at 4am on the Friday to make it in time for the rehesarsal dinner that night and then turning around and driving home the Sunday morning. While it was a tight turn around, the wedding itself was a good old classic small town Ukrainian reception, meaning AMAZING food, polkas, live fiddle band and of course the Kolomeyka. For anyone unfamiliar to what that is, it is a highly energetic social circle dance featuring intricate footwork, high kicks, and individual dancers showing off their best moves in the center.
Ponoka Stampede
While this month focused heavily on client load I also worked the ever popular Ponoka Stampede, which celebrated their 90th anniversary! Over 6 days, I photographed, videographed and interviewed atheletes. While the skill and athletism of both animals and riders is always awe inspiring for me, the true commitment to the sport was what took centre stage for me this weekend. For anyone who wasn't at the event or didnt know, it was pouring and created a total mud soup within the grounds. Both athletes and media alike, were caked in mud!! I have never been more thankful for my rubber boots and rain gear. But as I stated before it really went to show how dedicated rodeo fans and atheletes are to their craft as the mud didnt deter many from participating. Plus, it made for some fantastic photos!!

One of the groups I interviewed was the Ponoka grand entry and flag team and I thought it would be great to mention them here. One of the best parts of taking a deeper look into the teams dynamics is their coaches commitment to their success as both a team and individuals. I got a chance to spend the morning with them listening to their dialogue and watching their routines. One of the parts that really stuck out to me was their team affirmations where the team was encouraged to speak positively about themselves, their teammates and their abilities. I thought this was sooo incredibly important and a great way to build confidence and keep the start of each day encouraging. All the young ladies I was fortunate enough to chat with were so excited to share their passion! I felt so fortunate they were open to sharing their time and horses with me.

As I breifly mentioned above the month went by in a frenzy, which challenged me to really work on time management and finishing tasks as soon as I start them! I really had to focus on getting all the deadlines done quickly and efficiently as best as possible! While it was a bit chaotic especially towards the end, it really showcased the love I have for all the different roles I play within the equine community and I truly was thankful for every opportunity that came my way!
While I don't want to come across as having a big head, I do feel like I am starting to really make a stronger name for myself both as a practionner and as a journalist within horse sport. I cannot wait to see where this year takes me and I hope you enjoy following along!
